Student Support Block Grant

Strengthening student support and workforce readiness.

The Student Support Block Grant (SSBG) was established by Assembly Bill 123, Section 27, as part of the 2025-26 higher education budget trailer bill. The legislation appropriated $60 million from the General Fund to the California Community Colleges to support the implementation of California’s Master Plan for Career Education, advance Vision 2030 goals, and strengthen existing student support programs.

In 2026-27, Senate Bill 135, Section 27(a)(2), provided an additional one-time appropriation of $147,208,000 for the SSBG. Collectively, these investments represent a strategic commitment to student success and workforce readiness, emphasizing skills-based learning, career pathways, and equity-minded student support.

The next SSBG report is due no later than December 31, 2026. To help colleges prepare to fill out the report, all items from the report can be found in the Guide to Completing the Fiscal Year 2025-26 Student Support Block Grant (SSBG) report. When ready, submit the report using the Student Support Block Grant Report.
