As part of the California Community Colleges Call to Action, which came on the heels of last year’s racial reckoning, system leaders are taking a hard look at the role our colleges play in the training of law enforcement officers throughout California and how policing occurs on our campuses. Efforts are under way to strengthen collaboration and partnership with the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training as well as gathering input from students, college leaders, law enforcement experts, community members and others in preparation of development of policy changes designed to ensure that policing is culturally relevant and responsive to concerns of the communities being served.
