SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian issued the following statement on the announcement of Mildred García as the next chancellor of California State University:
“I would like to congratulate Dr. García on being named the chancellor of California State University. Her experience and dedication to students is highly distinguished at the state and national level and will be critical to our systems’ work to prepare students with the skills and knowledge to create California’s future. She is also breaking barriers in becoming the first Latina to oversee the nation’s largest and most diverse four-year university system. We look forward to collaborating with Chancellor García and bringing our systems together to increase access and success with equity for our students.
I would also like to express sincere thanks to Interim Chancellor Jolene Koester for her leadership. It’s been a pleasure working with Jolene and developing an important partnership. We wish her nothing but success in her future pursuits.”
