SILENCE LEADS TO VIOLENCE: WEEKEND WEBINAR LOOKS TO OPEN CRITICAL DIALOGUE TO ADDRESS AND END ANTI-AAPI VIOLENCE

THE COALITION, a joint effort between the African American Male Education Network (A2MEND), the Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE) and the California Community College Organizacion de Latinx Empowerment Guidance & Advocacy for Success (COLEGAS), is offering a webinar to address and discuss the increased rates of bullying, harassment, assault and other hate crimes against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) persons, communities and businesses.

Violence and discrimination against the AAPI community is not new, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, and the use of inflammatory and racist rhetoric alongside it, there has been a surge of xenophobic violence against Asian American and Pacific Islanders, with 3,795 documented anti-AAPI hate incidents across the country between March 19, 2020 and February 28, 2021.

The webinar, Silence is Violence: Unpacking and Addressing Anti-AAPI Violence, aims to bring together every member of our organization to take a stand against the structures that perpetuate and fuel discrimination and assaults on Asian American and Pacific Islander persons, and to identify actionable ways to address this and all forms of prejudice, stigmatization and racism.

The webinar is Saturday, March 27 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Register at this link.
