The California Community Colleges mourns the death of Board Member Alma Salazar, who passed away early this month after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her partner, Gene, and a young son, Noah.

Dr. Salazar had been senior vice president of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce since 2014 and executive vice president of UNITE-LA, a nonprofit group that works to expand college access and provide workforce development opportunities Los Angeles-area youth. She was appointed to the Board of Governors by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2019.

The Alma Salazar Scholarship Fund has been established in Dr. Salazar’s memory to help more students go to college. Donations can be made by sending a check to UNITE-LA with “Alma Salazar Scholarship” in the memo to 1055 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 1750, Los Angeles, CA 90017, or through this link.
