SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian has issued the following statement on the ongoing violence in the Middle East:
"Our thoughts are with those impacted by the brutal attack on Israel and ensuing war in the region, and our deepest concerns go out to those directly affected by the acts of violence taking place. The horrifying and inhuman actions have caused pain within the diverse community college system that serves 1.9 million students, some with personal ties to the region. Ensuring the safety and well-being of every student, faculty member and staff continues to be our top priority. Those who seek help with distress and anxiety are urged to contact campus support services. We hold out hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict that has resulted in such suffering and devastating loss of life."
The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation, composed of 73 districts and 116 colleges serving 1.8 million students per year.
