The Math Equity in Action Academy is a statewide professional learning opportunity designed to support colleges in strengthening classroom practices in alignment with the intent of AB 1705. The academy brings together college teams from across the system to engage in collaborative learning, implementation support, and peer exchange focused on advancing equitable math pathways and improving student outcomes.
Up to 15 college teams will participate in a structured learning experience that includes facilitated academy sessions, implementation coaching, peer learning, and engagement with field experts. Through this work, participating colleges will deepen their AB 1705 implementation efforts while building sustainable, equity-centered practices that respond to their local campus contexts.
The academy is designed for a core team led by math faculty and includes counseling, administration, institutional research, and support staff (e.g., instructional designer or PD coordinator), with up to 10 participants per college.
What Participating Colleges can Expect
The overarching goals for this academy are to:
- Encourage Deeper Application of Innovations: Support participants as they apply specific components from college spotlight classroom practices, progressing from initial ideas to refined and evaluated classroom strategies.
- Facilitate Peer-to-Peer Learning: Create a collaborative space where participants can learn directly from peers who have successfully implemented these math class innovations.
- Facilitate Collaborative Problem-Solving: Provide a structured venue for participants to share real-world implementation challenges and co-develop solutions with their peers.
- Enhance Capacity for Evaluation: Support participants in enhancing ideas for tracking progress and measuring the success of their implementation efforts.
- Access a wide range of resources through the CCCCO’s Vision Resource Center.
Cost-Sharing Structure
The Math Equity in Action Academy is offered through a partnership with The RP Group under a cost-sharing model:
- Each college team’s total participation cost is $80,000. Colleges will pay $47,000, and the Chancellor’s Office will cover the balance (up to 10 participants).
- Colleges are also responsible for their own travel and lodging associated with three in-person convenings.
Additional details regarding invoicing and timelines will be provided to selected colleges.
Colleges are encouraged to use their AB 1705 grant funds to support this effort, which may cover each team member's participation fee, travel, and other related expenses.
2026-27 Eligibility and Application
Colleges interested in participating are invited to submit an application that includes:
- Proposed college team and team composition
- Current AB 1705–related efforts and areas of focus
- Goals for participation in the academy
- Institutional commitment to full participation, including cost-sharing and travel
Applications will be reviewed, and up to 15 college teams will be selected. Priority may be given to colleges demonstrating readiness, leadership support, and alignment with academy goals.
