The following list is intended to help new transfer center directors identify many of the immediate responsibilities and important tasks associated with the role. Please note that this list is not comprehensive, as every college has its own scope and strategy with respect to carrying out the systemwide transfer mission.

People to Contact

  • Your college’s former Transfer Center Director. Request an orientation, if possible.
  • Your immediate supervisor regarding the expectations of your new role.
  • The CCC Chancellor’s Office Transfer & Articulation staff. Introduce yourself to:
  • Your transfer center director regional representative. Introduce yourself. Your regional representative is a great resource and can keep you in the loop regarding upcoming regional meetings to attend. If you do not know the representative for your region, please contact us.
  • Transfer Days/College Nights statewide coordinator Michael Burton (michael.burton@ucop.edu). Introduce yourself and, if you are responsible for your college’s fall Transfer Day event, identify yourself as such to ensure you are on the list to receive the draft schedule and other important announcements.

Professional Organizations to Join

  • The role-specific Transfer Center Director alias list (TCD-All@Listserv.CCCCO.edu.). Ask your college’s email administrator to add your name to receive emails.
  • The CCC Transfer Counselor website. Add yourself to the listserv and take advantage of the self-tutorial and/or webinar training session.
  • The CCC Counselor listserv provides general counseling information and will help keep you apprised of counseling-related issues and announcements. Subscribe to this listserv by sending an email to ListServ@ListServ.CCCNEXT.net from the email account you want subscribed with the words “SUBSCRIBE CCC-COUNSELORS” in the body of the message.
  • The Vision Resource Center (VRC). Add yourself to the Transfer community. To join the VRC, create an account.

Materials to Review

  • The Transfer Recommended Guidelines. These guidelines were created by experienced transfer center directors to establish important roles and responsibilities with respect to minimum program standards, operating the transfer center, working with campus colleagues, and interfacing with baccalaureate colleges and universities. Please contact Bob/Sean for a copy.
  • Training materials from past New TCD training events. These materials contain examples of program plans and program reviews, calendars of events, transfer day tips, and more. Please contact Bob Quinn or Sean Madden for a copy.
  • An example of the Transfer Center Calendar of Events so you have an idea of to-do’s coming up. Please contact Bob/Sean for a copy.
  • Your college’s transfer volumes and rates. Visit the Chancellor's Office Transfer & Articulation Unit Transfer Data Resources for links to transfer volumes and rates by college, district, statewide, and special cohorts. Please contact Bob Quinn or Sean Madden for a copy.

Compliance Requirements

  • The status of your college’s Transfer Center Plan. This is a Title 5 section 51027 regulatory requirement. Evaluate how your college’s transfer center plan complies to the components listed in Title 5 and resolve any deviations you discover.
  • The status of your college’s Transfer Advisory Committee, also a Title 5 section 51027 regulatory requirement.

Report to Prepare

The annual transfer center report submitted by October 31 every year to the CCC Chancellor’s Office per Title 5 section 51027. Please contact Bob/Sean for the URL and your login credentials.

Professional Events to Attend

  • CCC New Transfer Center Director training, sponsored by the CCC Chancellor’s Office and typically held every December. Please contact Bob Quinn or Sean Madden for details.
  • • Statewide annual counselor conferences (e.g., Ensuring Transfer Success, WACAC conference). WACAC also provides Share, Learn & Connect professional development workshops regionally throughout the year. Be sure to join the professional organizations listed above in order to receive announcements regarding these events. At this time, the CSU offers a virtual conference for counselors in the fall. The UC no longer provides fall conferences, but as an alternative provides one-hour topic specific webinars throughout the fall and spring semesters.
