Your health is our priority, California’s community colleges provide students with the resources to support your physical and mental wellness needs.

Available at all our campuses are health assessment and treatment, psychological counseling and crisis intervention, first aid and community partnerships. Those partnerships have resulted in a growing number of food pantries and free farmers markets, as recent studies are finding more than half of community college students face food insecurities and nearly half experience housing insecurity or homelessness.

Partnerships also are key in providing mental health services, including counseling. Mental Health Services advocacy efforts are flourishing, as evidenced by the Student Wellness Ambassador initiative, a component of the California Community Colleges Student Mental Health Program launched in 2011 as one of several prevention and early intervention initiatives funded by the voter-approved Mental Health Services Act.

The California Community Colleges will continue exploring how to best meet our students’ health and wellness needs. We will continue working with the state Department of Mental Health in focusing on early intervention initiatives, faculty and staff training, suicide prevention and peer-to-peer programs.

We urge our students, faculty and staff to contact their campus health centers to learn more about the many available resources.
