COLEGAS Conference: Pa'delante Juntos Podemos (Together We Move Forward)

The inaugural annual COLEGAS Conference, Pa'delante Juntos Podemos (Together We Move Forward), will be held Nov. 3-4, 2022, in Long Beach. Empowering Latinx professionals through support, legislation, and education is the central purpose of  COLEGAS.  Since 2018, COLEGAS has worked to advance the number of Latinx representations in administration and faculty ranks throughout California community colleges.

This year's theme calls on us to build solidarity as a collective through group learning, critical consciousness and shared agency to ensure that Latina/o/x people can thrive in higher education.

California community colleges are preparing to meet the dynamic needs of the expanding Latinx population and are working to create clear pathways to completion. One of the programs they have developed is called La Escalera, which provides guidance and support on career growth. The organization is dedicated to delivering high-quality leadership development opportunities so that members have the skills to thrive.

CCC | Representation Matters: How Racial Equity in Recruitment, Hiring and Retention of Black Faculty, Staff and Administrators Advances Equitable Outcomes in Student Achievement

The purpose of the event is to elevate the experiences of Black faculty, staff and administrators. This event will spotlight equity champions and the tools, resources, and guidance available that supports faculty, staff and administrator’s ability to lead change in equity-focused hiring and retention practices while also supporting the cultivation of anti-racist teaching and learning environments. Our intention is also to center the updated Equal Employment Opportunity Handbook that was recently revised and the urgency we need to move in to ensure hiring practices for African Americans are in line with the historic resources and advocacy.
