NATIONAL COMMUNITY COLLEGES ORGANIZATION HONORS CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES BOARD OF GOVERNORS WITH EQUITY AWARD

The California Community Colleges Board of Governors has been awarded the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Equity Award for the Pacific region.

The Equity Award recognizes a commitment to achieve equity in the college’s education programs and services, and in the administration and delivery of those programs and services. Nominees had to show leadership in setting policies that promote and enhance opportunities for institutional diversity, inclusion, and equity for women, persons of color, LGBTQ+ or members of any other underrepresented or underserved population.

“On behalf of the Board of Governors and the 1.8 million students we serve, I’d like to thank the ACCT for this honor, which recognizes the hard work throughout our system to put equity at the core of everything that we do,” said Pamela Haynes, president of the Board of Governors for California Community Colleges.”

Chancellor Daisy Gonzales, PhD, noted that the board’s commitment to the Vision for Success continues to drive the 116-college system to ensure equitable outcomes for all students.  “The work ahead is clear, and the urgency remains,” said Gonzales. “We will continue to fully implement the Board of Governors Vision for Success in alignment with Gov. Newsom’s Roadmap for the Future of California.”

System Guidance/News/Webinars

TUNE IN: The next Chancellor’s Office System Webinar - Financial Stability as a Core Social Determinant of Educational Success – is set for Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

California has expanded financial aid and basic needs programs for community college students significantly in recent years - yet we know too many of our students still struggle with the total cost of college. Why is financial stability so important, and what does it mean for it to be considered one of the core "social determinants of educational success"? Chancellor's Office financial aid and advocacy experts will lead a discussion about why it is so critical for us, especially at this moment, to strengthen and mature partnerships across program areas to ensure that cost is no longer a barrier to student enrollment, persistence and completion. We will be joined by campus partners who will share proven practices for advancing financial stability.

If you haven’t registered for the 2022 System Webinar series, please register via this link. If you have already registered there is no need to register again.

The Chancellor’s Office this summer released the 2022 Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) / Diversity Best Practices handbook. This handbook is designed to be used as a tool to advance the cultural transformation of the California Community Colleges, the largest system of higher education in the nation and one of the largest employers in California. This handbook affirms the role of EEO in student success and the shared institutional responsibility of every member of a community college district and campus, to uphold EEO policies, procedures and practices.
