Serving Students Experiencing Homelessness

California community college students have a pressing need for affordable housing. Based on recent research, 60% of student survey participants reported experiencing housing insecurity and 19% reported experiencing homelessness. In response to this growing need, the California Community Colleges is providing online training for faculty and staff, identified on campus, to provide services to students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. These online learning modules could benefit anyone interested or involved in supporting students experiencing homelessness. 
 
The recently launched Serving Students Experiencing Homelessness learning module in the Vision Resource Center addresses the need for housing security and reviews state and federal legislation establishing supports for students experiencing homelessness. It also covers existing campus and community resources and strategies on developing equity-minded, student-centered practical supports for students in need. The goal is to remove the barriers caused by housing insecurity to encourage equitable student success and to advance the Vision for Success. 

Many learning modules in the Vision Resource Center provide information and resources to support students experiencing housing insecurity. Consider taking  the following learning modules:


Micro-credential Courses Offered for Faculty Teaching Transfer Level Math

The California Community College Chancellor's Office is excited to offer faculty teaching transfer level math programs (STEM and SLAM pathways) online the opportunity to participate in the professional development micro-credential courses, Creating an Inclusive and Supporting Online Learning Environment and Promoting Active Learning Online, offered by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE)

ACUE's courses, endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE), address a comprehensive set of evidence-based teaching practices shown to promote student success. These courses begin on May 31, 2022, and will take approximately 7-8 weeks to complete. To register, please complete the course registration form by May 13.

Strategic Enrollment Management: Outreach and Onboarding

This learning module introduces system professionals involved in student outreach and onboarding to SEM practices that support the student from interest through enrollment. Participants accomplish this goal through reading, listening, reflecting, and ultimately moving promising practices from concept to action. Also, professionals interested in this topic should consider joining the Strategic Enrollment Management Community of Practice, a network of practitioners who can share their mutual interests, approach and practices in SEM. Maximizing Financial Aid for California’s Community Colleges

California has some of the highest costs of living in the nation and students, especially low-income and historically underserved students, need our support in receiving the financial aid they deserve. This updated module is designed to introduce California Community Colleges professionals to the principles of trauma-informed care. It provides an overview of what trauma is and how it affects many of our students.
