TThe fifth annual Undocumented Student Action Week will be held October 18-22, 2021. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Assembly Bill 540, the landmark legislation that opened the doors of higher education to thousands of undocumented students by removing the burden of out-of-state tuition. 

Please join us for a special conversation featuring California Community Colleges Acting Chancellor Dr. Daisy Gonzales, California State University Chancellor Dr. Joseph I. Castro, University of California President Dr. Michael V. Drake and Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities President Kristen F. Soares, that will highlight systemwide efforts to support AB 540 students and discuss shared commitments to continue addressing challenges that remain in order to support the success of all of our undocumented students.

Undocumented Student Action Week Systemwide Webinars
In the last five years, our collective budget and legislative advocacy during Undocumented Student Action Week has led to funding for Dream Resource Centers and Liaisons, the establishment of an Immigration Legal Services Project, the expansion of AB 540 eligibility and the protection of DACA. We know all too well that change is important every day of the year, not just during action week. This year’s theme, “Change in Action” empowers us to engage in state, federal and local action to support undocumented students in their goal of earning a college education. We must think about the ways we can cultivate and empower change that is long lasting.

The Chancellor’s Office Workforce and Economic Development Division and the Educational Services and Support Division are presenting a series of webinars hosted by WestEd. The webinars will help ensure understanding of the most recent dashboard releases program-level information, especially surrounding new metrics and the impact on incentive-based funding. Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) Commissioners and staff will continue the “Collective Dialogues: Advancing Innovation and Quality with our Institutions” webinar series on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. (PDT/PST). This semester’s topics cover some of the diversity, equity, and inclusion work of ACCJC member institutions, an introduction to accreditation and peer review, and assessment practices for continuous quality improvement. Webinars are facilitated by ACCJC Commissioner Randy Beach, Chair of the Educational Programming Committee. The full fall schedule and past webinar recordings are available on the ACCJC website. The next webinar, “Demystifying Accreditation,” is on Tuesday, Oct. 19 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

The next Chancellor’s Office System Webinar - Designing for Student Success: Innovations in Enrollment, Persistence and Learning - will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. If you are already registered for the Chancellor’s Office System Webinars, there is no need to register again. You will receive a reminder email prior to the webinar with your link. 
 
The recording and slides from the previous webinar - Innovating for the Future: Competency-Based Education - are posted in the Vision Resource Center. After logging-in, under the “Communities” menu, visit “All Communities” and look for “CCC | Webinars, Conferences, and Events”. Join this community, then access the “Chancellor’s Office System Webinars” topic to view the content.

Several California community colleges and thousands of community college students, faculty and staff are continue to be impacted by the state’s devastating fire season this year.

The Foundation for California Community Colleges has established a statewide fund that will help our students and staff affected by wildfires. Dollars will be used to assist students in overcoming new barriers to education resulting from fires and displacement, including replacing essential supplies such as laptops, books, backpacks, and providing emergency aid relief for the most deeply affected staff and faculty.
