CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES CELEBRATES PRIDE MONTH

he California Community Colleges is proud to recognize and honor LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, dedicated to the celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride. Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, and recognizes the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally and internationally.

Across the system, California community colleges and districts are celebrating the month with special events, parades and more. Fresno City College, Reedley College, Madera Community College and Clovis Community College all participated in the 33rd annual Fresno Rainbow Pride Parade and Festival. Students, staff and the public were invited to Allan Hancock College this past weekend, where the college celebrated Pride Month with an LGBTQIA+ flag-raising event at the Santa Maria campus. In Southern California, the San Diego Community College District is flying the LGBTQIA+ flag at district headquarters and at all eight campus locations for the first time in district history.

These are just a small sampling of the myriad Pride events being held this month across the system, but the celebrations and inclusion don’t end when Pride Month comes to a close. The California Community Colleges proudly celebrates and supports our LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, staff and administration all year long.

If you wish to show your support this month, a Pride Month Zoom background is available for download here.
