Guidance on the Equitable Placement, Support and Completion (AB 1705) Funding Allocation and the Submission of Funding Plans

As a result of sweeping policy reforms in remedial education, and to advance the goals of the Vision for Success in closing equity gaps in transfer-level math and English completion, the Legislature appropriated $64 million (one-time funding) in the 2022 Budget Act to establish the California Community College Equitable Placement, Support and Completion funding allocation.

Join us for an informational webinar where we will provide an overview of the funding methodology, guidance on the use of the funds, instructions on submitting funding allocation plans, and an opportunity to ask questions. This webinar will be recorded and posted to the Resources page of the Equitable Placement website.

Student Equity Plan (SEP) Data Release Webinar

Join the Chancellor’s Office for an informational on the Student Equity Plan Data Release. This webinar will let attendees:

  • Review updates to the 2022 SEP data with the release of 2022-23 SSM Cohort View Dashboard on the LaunchBoard
  • Learn about any impacts on the Disproportionate Impact (DI) calculations
  • Understand how to access and interpret SEP data to support conversations around what your college is doing to address persistent inequitable student outcomes

GOV. NEWSOM SET TO RELEASE REVISED BUDGET PLAN

Gov. Gavin Newsom tomorrow will release his revised 2023-24 state budget proposal. The teleconference is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. can be watched on the @CAGovernor Twitter page, California Governor Facebook page and the governor’s YouTube page.

Gov. Newsom in January presented his initial proposed budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year. For the California Community Colleges, the Governor’s Budget proposed an additional $652.6 million cost-of-living adjustment in Proposition 98 dollars for the general fund and additional ongoing resources of approximately $770 million to our system appropriations and categorical programs, as compared to the 2022 Budget Act. Student-Centered Leader Selected to Head Equitable Student Learning, Experience and Impact

The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office has announced the promotion of Aisha Lowe, PhD, to the position of executive vice chancellor of the Equitable Student Learning, Experience and Impact Office.

Lowe will be responsible for agency-wide policies and programs related to student support, instructional delivery and curriculum with the aim of increasing student success rates and closing achievement gaps. The Equitable Student Learning, Experience and Impact Office includes the Educational Services and Support and Workforce and Economic Development divisions.

IT Accessibility Workshop

Registration is open for the Summer Accessibility Workshop being held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. Offered twice annually, the full-day online workshops present strategies and solutions for incorporating accessibility into Information and Communication Technology (ICT) practices at the college and district levels.

Chancellor’s Office Releases Update to the Compendium of Allocations and Resources

In late 2022, the Chancellor’s Office released the inaugural edition of the Compendium of Allocations and Resources (the Compendium) to support district and college leaders in the implementation and effective use of 2022-23 fiscal resources. The Compendium provides fiscal and program guidance in one central location to facilitate access to information.

The May Compendium can now be found on the Budget News page. On page 10 of each release, we provide a bulleted list of new or updated content, which is summarized below.

Updates from February Compendium:

  • 2022-23 First Principal and 2021-22 Recalculation Apportionment: Information about the 2022-23 P1 and 2021-22 R1 apportionment calculations replaces information about the 2022-23 advance apportionment. See pages 20-27.
  • Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program: Language updated under the Funding Formula section. See page 39.
