CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES BOARD OF GOVERNORS CELEBRATES ADVOCACY DAY

The California Community Colleges Board of Governors today celebrated legislative Advocacy Day in Sacramento as part of California Community Colleges Month. Board members, Chancellor’s Office staff and members of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges met with state Legislators to lift up student voices and clearly communicate system priorities.
The Board of Governors declared April as California Community Colleges month, calling on colleges and their partners to ramp up activities and strategies that are showing to have a positive impact responding to student need.

As part of Advocacy Day, more than 30 meetings were held between California Community Colleges representatives and State Legislators, including Assemblymember Vince Fong (R-Bakersfield); Assemblymember Gail Pellerin (D-Santa Cruz); and Assemblymember Tri Ta (R-Orange County) to discuss college affordability, housing, modernizing the Economic & Workforce Development program; and equitable placement.

Thank you to all who participated in Advocacy Day and helped champion the California Community Colleges!

FAMILY-BASED IMMIGRATION PETITIONS WEBINAR SET FOR APRIL 19

In collaboration with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC),  the California State University Chancellor's Office, and the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, the Foundation for California Community Colleges will present the webinar Family-Based Immigration Petitions on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

One of the most common ways for people to get a green card is through a family member. U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents can help certain family members immigrate to the United States. This is a two-step process. First, the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident files a family visa petition. Second, the foreign national relative files an application to become a permanent resident. Each step involves different legal and factual issues. This webinar will provide an overview of the process and eligibility requirements for the first step required for a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to petition an immigrant family member.
