GOLDEN STATE EDUCATION AND TRAINING GRANT PROGRAM: OFFERING $2,500 IN RELIEF FUNDING FOR CALIFORNIANS AFFECTED BY THE PANDEMIC

The Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC) has partnered with the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) to promote the Golden State Education and Training Grant Program. This program provides relief funding of $2,500 to individuals who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping them reskill and access education or training programs to re-enter the workforce.

The Golden State Education and Training Grant Program is now accepting applications from Californians who meet the program's eligibility requirements, including both the overarching criteria and the income and asset requirements for Cal Grant A eligibility. Approximately $500 million is available to eligible individuals.

To reach eligible applicants, FoundationCCC and CSAC are recruiting Education and Training Ambassadors and community-based Education and Training Network Activation Partners.

Education and Training Ambassadors Program: Student advocates can now apply to become an Education and Training Ambassador and conduct direct outreach in their communities. Ambassadors will be trained on effective outreach strategies for their communities and will have the opportunity to earn a stipend of throughout the five month service term (May 2023-September 2023). Apply today here.

Education and Training Network Activation Partners: FoundationCCC is seeking out community-based partner organizations across the state with influence and outreach capabilities to help raise awareness of the program among regional populations.  If your organization is interested in learning more about the grant opportunity and the application process, please submit an interest form, and/or register to attend the virtual informational session on April 18, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PST.

By investing in the education and training of Californians, the Golden State Education and Training Grant Program aims to help individuals achieve their career goals and contribute to a stronger, more resilient workforce in the state. Through education and training, individuals can build the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a rapidly changing economy, which benefits not only the individual but also their families and communities. Visit the CSAC website for more information on grant eligibility requirements. REGISTER NOW: THE BERNARD OSHER PHILANTHROPIST OF THE YEAR AWARD EVENT HONORING THE SAN MANUEL BAND OF MISSION INDIANS

The Bernard Osher Philanthropist of the Year Award is presented annually by the Network of California Community College Foundations to an individual, corporation, or nonprofit organization that demonstrates a commitment to philanthropy and serves as a role model to encourage giving to our California Community Colleges. This year’s award honors the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for answering the call to create a better tomorrow by providing $17.2 million in philanthropic support to California Community Colleges in the Inland Empire, including Chaffey College, San Bernardino Valley College, Crafton Hills College, and Victor Valley College, along with San Bernardino and Riverside community college districts. Notably, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians’ support of the Valley-Bound Commitment Program at San Bernardino Valley College has eliminated financial barriers for more than 1,700 Inland Empire students who would not have otherwise had the financial means to continue their education beyond high school.

Philanthropic investment at community colleges is among the best strategies we have for increasing social and economic mobility, addressing long-standing inequalities in our communities, and ensuring that all members of our community have access to a life-changing higher education.

The event is Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. PST. Pre-registration required

FAMILY-BASED IMMIGRATION PETITIONS WEBINAR SET FOR APRIL 19

In collaboration with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC),  the California State University Chancellor's Office, and the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, the Foundation for California Community Colleges will present the webinar Family-Based Immigration Petitions on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

One of the most common ways for people to get a green card is through a family member. U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents can help certain family members immigrate to the United States. This is a two-step process. First, the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident files a family visa petition. Second, the foreign national relative files an application to become a permanent resident. Each step involves different legal and factual issues. This webinar will provide an overview of the process and eligibility requirements for the first step required for a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to petition an immigrant family member.
