Artificial Intelligence (AI) Literacy for Educators Course
AI Literacy for Educators: Supporting Student Success, offered via the CVC@ONE platform, was designed for faculty, instructional designers, and academic leaders to reflect the Chancellor’s Office Vision 2030 commitment to driving innovation and shaping the future of learning through strategic partnerships.
The course was developed originally through a collaboration between the Chancellor’s Office, the State University of New York (SUNY), the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), and several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), with project leadership and support from College of the Canyons and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). This project addressed a pressing need for professional development for community college instructors to enhance their AI teaching skills and prepare students for AI-driven careers. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges supported the project by recruiting California faculty to participate.
Faculty from the CCCs, SUNY, and UNCF-HBCU member institutions collaborated with CMU learning engineers to co-design and co-develop training to meet the needs identified by broad-access institutions. Subsequently, 60 faculty from these systems piloted the course, providing feedback for improvement while participating in a community of practice.
While the original course became available on the CMU platform several months ago, AI Literacy for Educators: Supporting Student Success has now been updated and adapted by Chancellor’s Office AI Fellows to serve our colleges in a more intentional way. It is available on the CVC@ONE platform with badging available and access for all interested.
