Senate Bill 206 (Skinner-D, 2019) Statutory Community College Athlete Name, Image, and Likeness Working Group
Senate Bill 206 (Skinner-D) was signed by Governor Newsom on September 30, 2019 and requires the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges to convene a community college athlete name, image, and likeness working group composed of individuals appointed on or before July 1, 2020. The overarching charge of the working group is to examine existing state and federal laws, as well as various athletic association bylaws regarding a college athlete’s use of the athlete’s name, image, and likeness for compensation. Based on this review, the working group is also required to submit a report containing its findings and policy recommendations to the Legislature and the California Community College Athletic Association on or before July 1, 2021.
Mission Statement
The SB 206 Community College Athlete Name, Image, and Likeness Working Group members will develop recommendations for California state legislation on compensation for California Community College athletes’ name, image, and likeness that are equitable and provide them fair market value for their use.
