California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian Issues Statement on Budget Agreement

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian, PhD, has issued the following statement on the budget agreement between Gov. Gavin Newsom and top legislative leaders for 2023-24:

“The budget agreement allows our colleges to manage inflationary pressures as they continue to drive economic growth, equity and social mobility for California. It provides flexibility in the use of pandemic assistance to continue to prioritize our students’ needs. We will work with colleges as they transition funding for previously and newly approved affordable student housing to support student success. We appreciate the state’s commitment to the expansion of workforce development programs and additional resources to strengthen diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility at our 116 colleges.”
