Reimagine Apply
CCCStart: A New Way to Get Started at California Community Colleges
CCCStart is the new student entry platform developed through the Reimagine Apply initiative
California Community Colleges are transitioning from CCCApply to CCCStart, a new, modern platform designed to make it simpler, faster and more secure for students to begin their educational journey.
CCCStart is the new platform students will use to get started at a California community college. Reimagine Apply is the broader systemwide initiative led by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office to rethink and modernize the student entry experience.
Through Reimagine Apply, students, colleges and system partners helped shape CCCStart around a shared goal: create a more intuitive, student-centered experience while improving data quality, security and fraud prevention.
What students can expect from CCCStart
CCCStart is designed to help students begin their journey with California community colleges more easily and confidently, with:
- A simpler experience with fewer, smarter questions
- A more personalized journey that adjusts based on each student’s circumstances
- Student-centered language and design informed by usability testing
- Less repetition by using information students have already provided when possible
- Stronger security and fraud prevention to better protect students, colleges and financial aid resources
- Modern technology and integrations that improve how information moves securely between systems
Key benefits in the new system
CCCStart offers practical changes that make their experience entering California community colleges easier:
- Reduced residency requirements mean more students can start their college journey sooner. Students only need be a resident for one year (and one day) before their classes begin.Â
- Information from other California community colleges is pulled into the student’s entry forms, so they don’t have to enter the same information multiple times.Â
- Future system enhancements across the California Community Colleges system will improve automation further, including secure sharing of identity verification data from trusted California state sources, like the Department of Motor Vehicles.Â
Coexistence Period
Moving to this new modern system comes with a challenge: because California community colleges cover the entire state, each with a unique technology environment, it requires detailed planning and coordination on a case-by-case/district-by-district basis. With that in mind, the transition will occur over a period of about 18 months, and both the current system (CCCApply) and the new system (CCCStart) will be used by different districts during this coexistence period.
What that means for students is that if they want to attend courses at a college on the current system, as well as courses at a college on the new system, they will have to submit their information in both CCCApply and CCCStart.
