SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Acting Chancellor Daisy Gonzales today issued the following statement on a transfer agreement between the California Community Colleges and American Public University System:

“Our students seek and select to attend a diverse set of institutions to complete their baccalaureate and graduate educations. This agreement is one of nearly 60 that the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office has entered into with transfer partners to ensure that the California community college students with Associate Degrees for Transfer who enroll in partner institutions will see their credits transfer and enter with junior standing in their major. Currently, 300 to 400 students transfer to APUS annually, and it is an important priority to ensure our students receive full credit for their courses upon transfer.

We continue to seek new transfer partnerships that will provide our students with assurances that their work at our community colleges will count toward their bachelor’s degree, embrace competency-based education and provide the flexibility that working students need. Under the terms of this partnership, APUS is required to submit annual student outcomes for our transfer students, and ensure this is a meaningful transfer pathway.”

The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation, composed of 73 districts and 116 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year. California community colleges provide career education and workforce training; guaranteed transfer to four-year universities; degree and certificate pathways; and basic skills education in English and math. As the state’s engine for social and economic mobility, the California Community Colleges supports the Vision for Success, a strategic plan designed to improve student success outcomes, increase transfer rates and eliminate achievement gaps.
