SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley issued the following statement on Gov. Jerry Brown’s revised state budget plan, which was released today.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In conjunction with California Small Business Month in May, the California Community Colleges today announced a new program designed to pathway students into the small business world of freelancers, independent contractors and entrepreneurs enabled through online platforms – workers who comprise the “gig economy.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, with support from the Foundation for California Community Colleges, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The James Irvine Foundation and College Futures Foundation, is soliciting input from the public through a virtual town hall as part of an effort to develop a long-term, ambitious vision for the California Community Colleges.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley congratulated the 14 California community colleges and community colleges districts that they won a $25 million state award for developing innovative programs to increase completion rates and make college more affordable. The Committee on Awards for Innovation in Higher Education announced the awards on Monday. The money will be split among the winning campuses and districts.

The online tool allows students and the public to view aggregated median earnings of those who complete a certificate or degree in a specific community college discipline and then enter the workforce.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley hosted a Chinese media roundtable to address higher education needs of the Chinese community and to share key information and facts on the community college system and the availability of many different types of financial aid.  Chancellor Oakley heads the largest system of higher education in the nation that is composed of a network of 113 community colleges throughout California.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California Community Colleges Board of Governors today approved the selection of 14 community colleges districts to participate in the California College Promise Innovation Grant Program, which provides financial support to implement or expand College Promise partnerships. The grant program was established by AB 1741 (Rodriguez and O’Donnell), which was signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown in September.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California Community Colleges Board of Governors today honored four professors with the 2016-17 Gerald C. Hayward Award for Excellence in Education. The winners are Marina Broeder (Mission College), Amanda Paskey (Cosumnes River College), Sally Saenger (Santa Barbara City College) and Jo Wen Wu (Fullerton College). Each winner received a commemorative plaque and $1,250.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Hundreds of California Community Colleges faculty, staff and administrators, along with other professionals who work with veterans, will attend the California Community Colleges Veterans Summit today and tomorrow in Sacramento. The purpose of the summit is to share information, resources and best practices to better help veterans transition from military service to higher education.
