SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Community Colleges Chancellor and University of California Regent Eloy Ortiz Oakley issued the following statement on University of California President Janet Napolitano’s announcement that she will step down from her post next year:
“President Napolitano has championed increasing the number of community college students who transfer to the University of California and channeled her role in immigration policy under the Obama administration to become a national leader for DACA students in higher education. Her leadership and support for DACA students have significantly improved the lives of immigrant students in the California Community Colleges and for this work I will forever be grateful.”
The California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the nation, composed of 73 districts and 115 colleges serving 2.1 million students per year.
