SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley released the following statement in support of the 2019-20 state budget compromise worked out by chief negotiators from the Assembly and Senate.
"The plan would take a first step toward broadly increasing need-based financial aid for community college students by funding additional competitive Cal Grants and advance efforts to deal with hunger and homelessness so prevalent among our students. It calls for additional support for student veterans by assisting in the expansion of campus-based resource centers. The proposal would solidify a new college funding formula approved last year that incentivizes enrollment and success of low-income students. My office, in consultation with our colleges, the governor's office and the Legislature, developed changes to the formula that would better measure the student outcomes that will help us achieve the Vision for Success and create financial stability for our colleges."
