Ensuring Transfer Success Virtual Conference Set for Sept. 13

It's not easy for students to make the transition from a California community college to a University of California campus. Ensuring Transfer Success virtual conference on Sept. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., provides new and veteran community college counselors with comprehensive information about the University of California transfer admission policies and practices. Ensuring Transfer Success is a collaborative project of the University of California and the California Community Colleges. This conference is designed for community college staff and faculty who are involved in preparing transfer students for admission to a UC, including academic counselors, transfer center directors, articulation officers, student services officers, EOP counselors and disabled student services counselors. This is a free event, but space is limited. Register.


Webinar on New Immigration Legal Services Website Scheduled for Aug. 31

The Higher Education Legal Services Project recently launched findyourally.com to help students, staff, and faculty at California community colleges statewide find free immigration legal services and case support on their campuses.  The Higher Education Legal Services Project will be hosting a webinar on August 31, 2022, from 10 – 11 a.m. to introduce the website. 
 
Findyourally.com allows those in need of immigration legal services to easily find and schedule a free appointment with a legal representative with a simple search by zip code or college name. Services include:

  • Legal consultations to screen for immigration relief
  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewals
  • Family-based petitions
  • Naturalization/citizenship applications

COLEGAS Inaugural Conference is Now Accepting Proposals

 

The inaugural annual COLEGAS Conference, Pa'delante Juntos Podemos (Together We Move Forward), will be held Nov. 3-4, 2022, in Long Beach and will focus on providing a Latina/o/x affirming space for California community college professionals to build community, share emerging practices and exchange resources in the service of Latina/o/x students and their communities. This year's theme calls on us to build solidarity as a collective through group learning, critical consciousness and shared agency to ensure that Latina/o/x people can thrive in higher education. 
 
Conference organizers encourage practitioners and faculty in the California Community Colleges, system partners, researchers and community members to submit proposals on one of the conference topic goals:

  • COVID & Racial Reckoning: What have colleges done differently to support students, their success and completion? What does outreach, community engagement and partnership look like in this era?
  • Latina/o/x Affirming Promising Policies & Practices
  • Racial Learning & Literacy and Cross-Racial/Ethnic Engagement
  • Servingness: Beyond Hispanic Enrolling to truly Serving our Latina/o/x Students
  • Culturally Responsive Teaching & Learning
