System Guidance/News

The Public Policy Institute of California this week released a report on the implementation of AB 705 at California community colleges, finding the landmark reform “broadened access to college composition (transfer-level English) and transfer-level math, allowing more students to successfully complete these gateway courses. [The] analysis also shows that colleges have made significant progress in boosting access to gateway courses among Latino and African American students in particular, though notable racial equity gaps remain.”

You can find a summary at this link and the full report here. Tomorrow PPIC researcher Olga Rodriguez will present findings from the new report, and a panel of experts – including Vice Chancellor for Educational Services and Support Aisha Lowe - will discuss how to further advance student success and equity in the AB 705 era. The webinar is Friday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m. Register at this link.

Join us for the next Chancellor’s Office system webinar on Wednesday, December 2 at 9:00 a.m. If you haven’t already done so, you can register for the webinars at this link. Previous webinar recordings are available on the Vision Resource Center.

Executive Vice Chancellor for Educational Services and Support Marty J. Alvarado this week released Memorandum ESS 20-400-003 CVC Course Exchange – Preparing for Student-Centered Cross Enrollment. This memo highlights the technical and administrative steps for colleges to better position their institution to support students cross enrolling in courses offered in the California Virtual Campus (CVC) Course Exchange.

The Chancellor’s Office is committed to keeping everyone informed during this uncertain time. We encourage administrators, faculty, staff and students to regularly check the Chancellor’s Office COVID-19 resource page and the Chancellor’s Office Communications to Colleges section for ongoing executive orders, guidance memos and announcements. Current and prospective students can also get connected with their local college to find out specific resources and support services available as well as enroll in their local community college.
