Meet Vice Chancellor Laura Metune
Vice Chancellor of Governmental Relations Laura N. Metune joined the Chancellor’s Office in December 2016.
Metune has an extensive background with state government. She previously served as chief consultant for the Assembly Committee on Higher Education. As the California Assembly's lead higher education policy staffer, she helped pass landmark legislation related to student consumer protections, financial aid, and other postsecondary issues. In 2012, Metune was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown as chief of the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education. She also served as a committee consultant for the Assembly Committee on Higher Education and as legislative director for the former chairs of the Senate Labor Committee and the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee.
In addition, Metune was the legislative consultant for Senate Subcommittee on International Trade Policy and State Legislation, a committee founded by former Sen. Tom Hayden to examine the intersection of international trade agreements and state environmental and labor laws. Metune was the first permanent Senate staff member to the California Legislative Women's Caucus.
In 2016, Metune was selected as a fellow for the California Education Policy Fellowship Program, a professional development initiative that aims to strengthen education policymaking in California.
Metune is a first-generation college graduate; she transferred from American River College to earn a bachelor’s degree in government from California State University, Sacramento.
