Students must be heard, and the Student Senate for the California Community Colleges is recognized by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors, the state Legislature, the Office of the Governor and myriad state agencies as the official voice of community college students.
The Student Senate is the official representative of the more than 2.1 million community college students in California. It helps coordinate testimony before state Assembly and Senate committees, co-sponsors legislation and organizes statewide and regional events advocating from the student perspective. It promotes and safeguard access for current and future students to California public higher education in accordance with the Master Plan for Higher Education through participatory governance, legislative and policy advocacy, and regional support and development.
An annual leadership summit trains new and returning regional senators on best practices in serving our community college students. A twice annual General Assembly is held in the fall and spring.
How can you get involved? By participating at your local Associated Students organization or by taking part at local regional meetings.
