Government Relations

The Government Relations Division represents the Chancellor's Office before the legislature and executive branch of the State and Federal Government. In addition it is responsible for formulating and advancing the legislative agenda of the system. Questions about legislation that affect the community colleges may be directed to this Division by contacting the staff:

During the 2009-2010 California legislative session, the Board of Governors is sponsoring two bills.

·         AB 386 (Ruskin) Instructional Materials for Disabled Students - Fact sheet
6/26/09 - AB 386 Update - Assemblymember Ruskin and the Chancellor's Office have negotiated new language that still addresses the issue and removes the publishers' opposition, the amendment was submitted on 6/25/09. AB 386 is still scheduled to be heard in Senate Education Committee on July 1st, 2009- send position letters to committee staff.

6/26/09 - AB 669 Update - Passed Senate Education Committee on June 17,2009, 9-0 vote - to be heard in Senate Appropriations Committee on July 6,2009
