Division of Workforce and Economic Development

The Workforce and Economic Development Division is responsible for supporting instruction and innovation by providing grants to community colleges, technical assistance, and by the use of various special programs. The Division coordinates the efforts of community colleges to advance California’s economic growth and global competitiveness while ensuring jobs and career opportunities for community college graduates.

Multiple strategies are used to enable the colleges to provide critical development services to employers and communities, to increase economic success, and to support excellence in Career Technical Education and training for individuals entering the workforce, as well as incumbent and re-entry workers.

Administrative responsibilities for the Chancellor’s Office include the Economic and Workforce Development program, the Federal Perkins Vocational Technical Education Act, Nursing and Allied Health programs, the Workforce Investment Act, Apprenticeship funding and more.
