Background
In 2005, the Legislature provided $20 million to fund the Governor's Career Technical Education Pathways and Workforce Development Program through Senate Bill 70 (Jack Scott) to align K-12 Career Technical Education (CTE) with local community colleges. The Legislature provided an additional $32 million through Senate Bill 1133 (Tom Torlakson) for CTE in 2007. Additionally, $38 million per year was approved for 2008-12. The primary goals of the legislation are to develop new programs and buld a partnership between California's K-12 schools and community colleges so that their vocational curriculum is in alignment and of maximum benefit to students.
