ACADEMIC AFFAIRS DIVISION PROFILE

The Academic Affairs Division of the Chancellor's Office is responsible for providing state-level design and review of community college curriculum and instructional support activities. The division is committed to providing leadership and technical assistance to enhance the capacity of the community colleges in the areas of academic planning, approval of credit degrees and certificates; distance education; basic skills/ESL literacy; approval of noncredit courses and certificates; flex calendar; minimum qualifications, teacher preparation; MESA; Puente; and middle college high school.


EXECUTIVE OFFICE

Responsible for providing policy recommendations to the Board of Governors (BOG) and Consultation; provides leadership and oversight for all division activities including credit/noncredit curriculum approvals, distance education, basic skills/ESL, special project management, and systemwide technical assistance.

·         The Puente Project
·         Middle College High School
·         Adult High School Diploma Program Approval


CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

Responsible for management, policy development and implementation in the areas of instructional resources and academic standards, including course and program approval, curriculum reporting and review, noncredit and adult education, basic skills and distrance education.  The Dean works with other agencies and segments in the develoment of intersegmental policy.
